0.3-0.5 GB/day
Mostly maps, messages, email, and a little browsing between Wi-Fi stops.
Trip data planner
Tell us how long you are away and what you use your phone for. We will turn that into a practical data target, with extra room for weak Wi-Fi and busier days.

A practical estimate
Maps and plain messages barely move the needle. Streaming, video calls, photo backups, and a laptop hotspot can change the total quickly. That is why the calculator starts with a realistic daily range instead of one fixed number for every traveler.
We also add room for the days when airport Wi-Fi fails, an app updates in the background, or you use your phone more than expected.
What changes the total
A useful starting point
Pick the closest match, then adjust upward if you expect long video calls, frequent streaming, or unreliable Wi-Fi.
Light
Mostly maps, messages, email, and a little browsing between Wi-Fi stops.
Everyday
Maps, social posts, short clips, music, and regular travel research.
Remote work
Video calls, streaming, cloud work, and occasional laptop hotspot use.
These totals use the midpoint of each daily range and include the calculator's 30% safety buffer. Treat them as planning targets, not exact predictions.
| Usage style | Per day | 3 days | 7 days | 14 days | 30 days |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Light | 0.4 GB | 2 GB | 4 GB | 8 GB | 16 GB |
| Everyday | 1 GB | 4 GB | 10 GB | 19 GB | 39 GB |
| Remote work | 3 GB | 12 GB | 28 GB | 55 GB | 117 GB |
Use these ranges to see what drives your estimate. The calculator uses the middle of each range, while your actual use will still depend on app settings, signal quality, and media quality.
about 3-10 MB/hour
GPS is light. Live traffic, new map areas, and satellite view use more.
light for text; media varies
Plain text barely registers. Photos, voice notes, and videos are what add up.
about 200-400 MB/hour
Autoplay and short-form video can push a session above this range.
about 100-300 MB/hour
Normal streaming quality. Offline playlists keep repeat listening off your plan.
about 500 MB-1.5 GB/hour
Quality matters most here. HD and higher resolutions can move well above this range.
about 300 MB-1 GB/hour
Camera quality, group calls, and screen sharing can change the total quickly.
about 50-100 MB/hour
A practical range for news, shopping, and travel research without large downloads.
Behind the number
Quick profiles begin with a practical daily amount. By activity adds up the time you enter using the planning ranges above. Both routes multiply the daily total by your trip length, then add 30% for background sync, app updates, weak Wi-Fi, and heavier days.
Daily GB × trip days × 1.3 safety buffer
For example, 1 GB per day over a 7-day trip becomes 9.1 GB after the buffer. We round that up to a 10 GB target so the result maps to a plan you can actually choose.
Divide your recent mobile data total by the number of days in that period. Then adjust for how much hotel Wi-Fi, streaming, and hotspot use you expect while traveling.
Use your target to compare prepaid plans with instant delivery, no subscription, and clear activation timing.
